Sunset over the Manhattan skyline in New York

Drive west out of New York and you could keep going for 4,500 kilometres before the Pacific stops you — through Appalachian hollows, Midwestern grain seas, Rocky Mountain passes and red-rock desert. That scale is the point of the United States: it contains temperate rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula, subtropical swamp in the Everglades, arctic tundra in Alaska and volcanoes in Hawaii, stitched together by the world's most storied road-trip culture. The national parks — Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon among more than 60 — are the crown jewels. Its cities are worlds unto themselves: New York's density and museums, New Orleans' brass bands, Chicago's architecture, San Francisco's fog-draped hills. Every region eats, talks and votes differently, which is half the fascination.

Frequently asked questions

Which United States destinations can I book with Nuvoha?

New York — with complete flight and hotel trips built around your budget.

What kind of trips suit United States?

United States works for city breaks trips.

Can you get around the United States without a car?

In New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC and San Francisco, yes — transit and walking work well. Between cities, flights are the norm; Amtrak covers some scenic routes. For national parks and small towns, a car is close to essential.

How does tipping work in the US?

It is expected, not optional in practice: 18–20 per cent at sit-down restaurants, a dollar or two per drink at bars, and similar gestures for taxis, guides and hotel housekeeping. Card terminals usually prompt you.

What plug type does the US use?

Flat two-pin Type A and three-pin Type B at 120 volts. Travellers from 230-volt countries need an adapter, and should check that hair dryers and similar devices support dual voltage.
